A Clear Process for Reviewing and Pursuing Your Complaint
If you have lost money through an online broker or investment platform, it can be difficult to understand what happened, who is responsible, and what options may be available.
LawfulFX reviews the circumstances of your case, investigates the broker and its regulatory status, organizes the available evidence, and determines whether there may be reasonable grounds to pursue a complaint.
When we accept a case, we first attempt to reach a resolution directly with the broker. If that is unsuccessful, we may assist with escalating the complaint to the appropriate regulator, ombudsman, or dispute-resolution body. Cases requiring legal action may be referred to an independent lawyer for a separate legal assessment.
Every case is different. Acceptance of a case does not guarantee a refund, compensation, settlement, or any other result.

Step 1: Tell Us What Happened
Start by completing our initial case-assessment form. You will be asked to provide basic information about the broker, your account, the disputed amount, and the circumstances surrounding your complaint.
Information may include:
- The broker or platform’s name and website
- Your country of residence
- The approximate amount deposited
- Any amounts successfully withdrawn
- The amount you are seeking to recover
- The payment methods used
- The dates of the relevant transactions
- A brief explanation of what happened
- Details of any previous complaint or communication
Submitting the form does not create a client relationship or guarantee that LawfulFX will accept the case.

Step 2: We Review Your Case
Our team conducts an initial assessment of the information you provide.
We look at the difference between an ordinary trading loss and a situation that may involve misrepresentation, unauthorized activity, withdrawal obstruction, improper conduct, or another potential basis for complaint.
We may contact you to request further information or supporting documents, including:
- Account statements
- Deposit and withdrawal records
- Emails and chat conversations
- Agreements and terms provided by the broker
- Screenshots or account records
- Previous complaints and responses
- Relevant payment records
You should never send us your trading-account password, online-banking password, complete card details, cryptocurrency wallet recovery phrase, or private keys.
Step 3: We Investigate the Broker
We investigate the identity and regulatory status of the broker or platform involved.
Depending on the circumstances, our review may include:
- Identifying the company operating the broker
- Checking the broker’s registered address
- Reviewing its claimed licence
- Identifying the relevant regulator
- Checking whether the licence applies to the correct legal entity
- Reviewing whether the broker was authorized to serve the client
- Examining the broker’s terms and complaints procedure
- Reviewing available regulatory warnings or enforcement information
- Determining which complaint or dispute-resolution process may apply
A licence does not automatically mean that a client is entitled to a refund. It helps us identify the rules, complaint process, and possible escalation routes relevant to the case.
Step 4: We Assess Whether There Are Grounds for a Complaint
After reviewing the information, we determine whether the case appears to have reasonable grounds and whether LawfulFX can assist.
Possible outcomes include:
- The case may have reasonable grounds to proceed
- Additional evidence may be required
- Another complaint route may be more appropriate
- The matter may require immediate legal assessment
- The loss appears to have resulted from ordinary market activity
- The claim may be outside an applicable time limit
- The available evidence may not be sufficient
- LawfulFX may be unable to accept the case
If we cannot assist, we will explain our decision where reasonably possible. We do not accept every enquiry, and we do not create unrealistic expectations about potential outcomes.
Step 5: We Prepare and Submit the Complaint
If LawfulFX accepts the case and you agree to our service terms, we prepare a structured complaint based on the available facts and evidence.
The complaint may include:
- A clear timeline of events
- The relevant transactions
- The conduct being disputed
- Supporting communications and documents
- The client’s requested resolution
- Relevant contractual or regulatory considerations
We then submit the complaint to the broker or help the client submit it through the required official process.
The exact service we can provide depends on the applicable jurisdiction and whether third-party representation is permitted.
Step 6: We Communicate and Negotiate
We engage with the broker through the appropriate complaints channel and seek a reasonable resolution.
Depending on the case, a proposed resolution may include:
- A full refund
- A partial refund
- Compensation
- Release of an eligible withdrawal
- Correction of an account issue
- Another negotiated settlement
The broker may accept, reject, or make a counteroffer. We will explain any proposed resolution so that you can make an informed decision.
LawfulFX will never accept a settlement on your behalf without your authorization.
Step 7: We Escalate the Complaint When Appropriate
If the broker does not respond or a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached, we assess whether the matter can be escalated.
Depending on the broker, jurisdiction, and nature of the complaint, escalation may involve:
- The relevant financial regulator
- A financial ombudsman
- An alternative dispute-resolution service
- A payment provider
- Another competent authority
Not every regulator investigates individual complaints, negotiates settlements, or has the authority to order compensation. The available process and possible outcomes depend on the relevant jurisdiction.
Step 8: Legal Review When Necessary
If the complaint cannot be resolved through negotiation or regulatory escalation, the case may be referred to an independent lawyer for assessment.
The lawyer will determine:
- Whether legal action has reasonable prospects
- Which jurisdiction and law apply
- Whether the claim is within the applicable time limit
- The likely costs and risks
- Whether a judgment could be enforced
- Whether legal action is commercially reasonable
Any legal representation will require a separate agreement between the client and the lawyer. Legal services, court costs, expert fees, and other expenses are not automatically included in LawfulFX’s consultancy service unless expressly stated in writing.
LawfulFX is not a law firm and does not provide legal representation.
Our Success-Fee Model
LawfulFX generally works on a success-fee basis for accepted cases. This means our agreed fee becomes payable only after the client receives a qualifying refund, compensation payment, or settlement covered by the service agreement.
Before work begins, the client will receive written terms explaining:
- The success-fee percentage or calculation
- What is considered a successful outcome
- When the fee becomes payable
- Whether taxes apply
- Whether any external costs may arise
- What happens if the broker offers a non-cash settlement
- The client’s cancellation rights
- Any exclusions or limitations
Recovered funds should normally be paid directly to the client. LawfulFX will then issue an invoice for the agreed success fee.
No payment or result is guaranteed. Any separate lawyer, court, expert, banking, or third-party costs must be disclosed and agreed upon before they are incurred.
How Long Does the Process Take?
The time required depends on several factors, including:
- The complexity of the case
- The quality of the available evidence
- The broker’s response time
- The broker’s location and regulatory status
- The applicable complaints procedure
- Whether regulatory or legal escalation is required
Some cases may be resolved through direct communication. Others may take several months or longer. We will provide updates as the case progresses, but we cannot guarantee a completion date.
Your Responsibilities
To help us assess and manage your case effectively, you must:
- Provide complete and accurate information
- Preserve all relevant documents and communications
- Inform us about any other representative handling the matter
- Notify us if the broker contacts you directly
- Avoid accepting or rejecting a settlement without informing us
- Respond to reasonable requests for information
- Review and approve documents before submission when required
Providing false, incomplete, or misleading information may result in the case being declined or closed.
